I am trying to install the software on the server but I keep getting an error – unable to connect to datapath?
Please ensure the software is pointing to the correct data path location. Many users have the client data at a different location and therefore, once the installation is complete, you will need to change the standard data file location preset in the software of P11DMAN/Clients.
The software has a red notice advising us that a new update is available. We run the software on the server – do we just need to update the client workstations?
The software must be downloaded then installed using the same installation process used when the software was first installed. Once the server has been updated, you should navigate the workstations to the server location then run the P11D Client exe – exactly as you did for the initial installation.
I am trying to e-mail the P11D forms to employees, but an error appears saying there was not enough data existing?
Please check the following:
> Has a valid email address been set up for the employee?
> Has the e-mail setup screen been completed, including SMTP Server password if required? From the opening screen, please select OPTIONS, then EMAIL SETTINGS and enter the necessary information.
> Is the antivirus software stopping the emails being sent from third party software? If so, you will need to set a condition on Port 25 to allow emails to be sent. Otherwise, McCafee Antivirus software will think the emails are an SMTP Worm.
I am trying to use the FBI facility to submit my returns online. Why am I getting Error 1046?
These are usually connected to an invalid entry for the FBI User ID and password or the employer details. It is important that the details entered are exactly as supplied - as even case sensitivity and spacings can result in errors.
I am trying to print the reports. Why is an error appearing saying there is no application associated with the specified file for this operation?
This means the software is unable to find a PDF reader software on your workstation. It needs this to generate the reports.
I am trying to add a new employee, but the software is saying I have reached the registration limit?
You will need to check that you do not have any employees on your list that are not required. This includes all employees in all employers that have been set up in the program. You can only delete an employee still showing with the blue triangle.
I need help with the contractor questions in P11D Manager.
If the worksheet requires you to answer whether a contractor is an employer or employee, then this relates back to the contract made for the expenses incurred.
For example, if the company contracts for private health cover for employees via a private health scheme, then the contractor is the employer. But if the employee has personal private health cover which they have arranged for themselves, then the contractor is the employee.
Where the employer is the contractor, Class 1a NIC is applicable. If the employee is the contractor then this is Class 1 NIC, and will not give a NIC Liability on the P11D.
How do I file by internet?
Before you can start filing by internet, it is necessary to register with HMRC. They will give you a password and login details.
How can I tell which version of P11D Manager software I am running?
While you are running the P11D Manager programme, click the "Help” tab and then click the "About” tab to show which version is currently in use.
What is the base cost of P11D Manager, and what is included in it?
The base cost is an annual fee that covers both IT and tax-technical support for P11D Manager, all relevant software updates for that year, and any changes authorised by HMRC.
I have a network version of P11D Manager, which I have installed, but I cannot see the data. Why?
For standalone installations (not a server install), please check that the software has been installed into the same location (that is, drive and folder) on your computer as any previous P11D Manager installations.
However if you are installing to a server location please note the following!
You will need to install to a local drive and then point a path to your previous data location on your server.
Please do not attempt to install any .exe files to your server.
Your previous year data will pull through to the new software as normal.
How do I increase the number of P11D Manager licences?
Just call us on 0870 609 1918. Increasing the number of licences you have is a quick and simple process, which can be done over the phone.
How do I receive updates of P11D Manager issued throughout the year?
Any P11D Manager software updates throughout the year will be dispatched to you automatically, many updates will be available for download.
Why is it necessary to show the contractor as either employee or employer?
If the expense or benefit is in the employer name, Class 1A National Insurance contributions will apply and you should enter "employer” in the contractor box.
If the expense or benefit is not in the company name, you should select "employee” in the contractor box. Class 1 NIC will be due and this should be dealt with through your company payroll.
What is a Section 336 claim?
A Section 336 claim is a claim against expenses which are wholly and exclusively necessary for the performance of your duties as an employee. If you are not sure which expenses can be claimed, please refer to the HM Revenue & Customs Booklet 480 for further guidance.
If your expenses do qualify, please show the relevant entries in the required section. A form can then be produced, which needs to signed by the relevant employee and submitted to HM Revenue & Customs.
What happens if the a car is withdrawn at the end of the tax year?
If the car is available for the whole tax year, but is withdrawn on the 5th April, you must enter "Yes” or "No” as to whether the car was actually withdrawn on the 5th April.
What if the fuel is withdrawn during the tax year, but the employee continues to use the company car?
Under the car fuel screen, a date must be entered into the "withdrawal of car fuel” box.
When a car has been replaced, how do I create a P46 Car?
The new car must be added to the database before a P46 Car can be generated. Only one P46 Car is required on changeover. Once all the details of the new car have been entered, select the P46 Car tab within the second car worksheet. Follow the on-screen instructions.
What is the Admin Module, and why do I need to install it?
The P11D Manager Admin Module is a free add on including any budget updates and usually avaible from April.
The software will allow you to continue inputting information for the current tax year (i.e. 2011/2012) however both print and FBI facilities become dissabled until the next full version is released.
The Admin Module allows continued processing therefore avoiding a backlog of data to be entered at the end of the tax year.
However the P46 Car forms remain fully available for both print and FBI.
Is there an email facility to employees?
Yes - All P11Ds can be emailed directly to any employee providing the contact details entered are correct and up to date.
